About Me

My name is Mary Ellen Yost.  I am a professional music teacher who specializes in piano instruction.  I also teach guitar and voice.  My first piano lessons were at age 5.  I began accompanying at church and school at age 12.  I studied the organ in high school and began harp study in college.  I began playing the guitar in 1970, and have been singing all my life.  I have had excellent teachers (Nettie Allen, Leonard Mastrogiacomo, Marilyn Schiewe, Doris Calkins) who have enriched my life.  My parents, siblings, husband, children and grandchild all share in a love for music.

Performing

As a musician, I’ve been privileged to share my music in many capacities. Some of my favorite experiences include, ensemble piano playing, accompanying my sister and daughter (both singers) in their performances, conducting school and church groups, 2nd harpist performing with the London Symphony Orchestra, solo singing, and enjoying music with my family and friends.

Music is a life long endeavor enhanced by private studying and sharing with friends and family. I seek to work with all students to meet their goals in music for the present and future. I value greatly the importance of fundamentals in teaching music. 

It is my goal to provide a sound music education that will help each student enjoy music.
